Some technology is invented for the purpose of advancement, sustainability or education; others for pure enjoyment. The Been travel app belongs to the latter. This fun and eye-opening application for iOS devices tracks which countries and U.S. states you have visited, giving you a visual representation of your travels.
There are two parts of Been to focus on. On the bottom left, you’ll see the World section. From there, you can choose which countries you have already explored from an alphabetical list of every country in the world. These will be highlighted in color on a blank map of the world in the app, which can be viewed as a lay-flat or 3-D model. I have been lucky enough to have visited 36 countries so far, and even that is only 14 percent of the world.
On the bottom right you will find the United States portion. Repeat the process by selecting from the alphabetical list of U.S. states you have visited and watch the U.S. map light up in color above. If you want to show the world where you have traveled, the map can be shared on social networks like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Does the Been app do much more than that? No. But if you’re an avid traveler, or want to be, this is a good way to encourage yourself to get out there. It’s eye-opening to see how much you have seen of the world and, more importantly, how much you have left to see.
