Airplane food has a less-than-stellar reputation for being mushy, flavorless and overall unappealing. Nowadays, most travelers elect to bring their own food on board in case they are faced with the unappetizing chicken and pasta dishes provided high in the sky. But what if passengers were able to learn about their food options before they even boarded the plane? That is where InFlight Feed comes in.
The website is the brainchild of Nikos Loukas, a man who spent years working in the airline and travel industries in various capacities. In an effort to publicize the in-flight meals provided by airlines and give passengers the leg up in determining whether they want to rely on the free meal or opt to purchase a meal in advance, he created InFlight Feed in 2012.
The homepage lists airlines alphabetically, and when users click on an airline, they are taken to a page full of information about on-board food offerings, from business-class Champagne to economy snacks of muffins and juice. Visitors are also welcome to leave comments about their specific experience on any airline, ensuring the information is up to date. A more specific section features reviews and Loukas’ personal opinions about the meal options available on various airlines, including photos and a numerical rating out of 10.
The success of the website spawned a full-length documentary film called The Inflight Food Trip, set to debut in 2017.
