Overall, Merrell makes excellent shoes that perform well in the outdoors. The products hold up against mud, water and rocks, and they’re well priced and durable.
The Moab shoes are largely categorized similarly. These shoes are perfect “approach” shoes, meaning they’re intended for day hikes or for light-load backpacking trips. They can take a beating and hold up well, but don’t provide the same high ankle support beefier boots offer. Still, they’re lightweight, comfortable and absorb a decent amount of force as you walk.
The Moabs are wider in the toes than most other Merrells, and wider in general, so they’re great if you have issues with narrower shoes giving you blisters or just leaving your toes feeling cramped. Moabs also guard against moisture intrusion while being extremely breathable.
Overall, the shoes are comfortable to wear on hikes and designed to help prevent against soreness. One of the issues with Merrells in general that holds true for Moabs is they are hard to keep tied — for some reason, the stiffness of the shoe leads the laces to untie. And these beefier shoes aren’t always the most attractive, but they get the job done.
