Part of traveling and encountering different cultures is meeting people with experiences and backgrounds different than your own. Unfortunately, language barriers can cause trouble when communicating and create rifts in potential relationships. Luckily, technology start-up Sigmo invented a device to keep travelers from getting lost in translation. Their electronic voice translating device is great for asking directions, ordering food, meeting new people and making a positive first impression while on business trips.
The Sigmo Voice Translating Device ($50) uses smart translation technology to convert spoken words to 25 different languages in real time. The program is run via Bluetooth to the device using their free smartphone app, compatible with most makes and models. The device uses two buttons: one that takes your spoken words and translates them into a foreign language, and another takes foreign words and translates them into your native language. The sleek four centimeters by four centimeters by 1.5 centimeters design makes it easy to carry on the free wrist tie, belt clip or neck strap. The device also comes with a charger to repower the lithium battery, giving it eight hours of talk time and 300 hours standby. It is available in white, black and green, or gold and silver aluminum for an extra $15.
