The beauty of yoga is it can be done almost anywhere with minimal equipment required. There are some great accessories, though, to make your practice even more fulfilling. Here are some of my favorites.

First things first: the mat. Every yogi has his/her favorite type of mat. For those who practice daily, a more durable, high-quality mat is a better option despite the larger price tag. The Liforme Yoga Mat is worth the $140, as its design incorporates a unique AlignForMe system of alignment and is wider and longer than the traditional mat. Other recommended mats include the Manduka PRO and the Lululemon Reversible (Un) Mat ($48), ideal for travel.

Whether you’re practicing Bikram or Vinyasa, a towel is a great thing to have on hand. Some mats have a smoother surface, making it easy to slip during a more intense class. Some of the best brands include Yoga Brights ($19.97) and Jade Yoga ($40).

An accessory I personally can’t practice without is the yoga block. They’re perfect for avoiding injury and providing support, as well as further lengthening and deepening certain poses. When deciding on

blocks to buy, look out for high-density blocks, as you want them strong enough to support your body weight. I recommend Reehut High-Density EVA Foam Blocks, available on Amazon ($10.99 for two).

Another great accessory to incorporate into your practice to improve form and flexibility is a yoga strap. I recommend the 8-foot Ecolite Yoga Cotton Yoga Strap, available on Amazon ($11.95) in several colors.

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
