The benefit of the TripIt Pro app is you will have all your travel itinerary information at your fingertips and you will know immediately if there is a gate change, an available seat upgrade or if your points suddenly offer you a nice hotel room for free because your flight was canceled by an act of god.
The TripIt Pro version of this app will cost you about $49 a year, a good deal if you travel for business because it allows you to track rewards points, benefits and upgrades, but there is also the Tripit app, completely free.
Tripit allows you to create itineraries and alerts. The way it works is pretty simple: Download the app and, when you book a trip, email your travel itinerary to plans@tripit.com. With this information, Tripit will create an itinerary that allows them to notify you via text or email when you need to check-in, which gate to be at when and if there have been any changes to your flight. This is particularly helpful if you are someone who routinely forgets when the flight is scheduled.
In addition, you can also email them car rentals and restaurant reservations so you know where to be throughout your entire trip. It is a great resource for business and pleasure travel, especially when things get complicated.

United Continues Its Global Expansion
