Located in Nashville’s charming Germantown neighborhood, 5th & Taylor serves up refined American fare in its industrial digs.

My husband and I decided to grab dinner there on our first night in Nashville. We did not have reservations, but easily found a spot at the bar. The friendly bartender came over right away to bring us drink and food menus. We each ordered a glass of wine while studying the food menu.

With a menu covering a variety of dishes, we asked for some recommendations. Following the bartender’s suggestions, we started with the beef tartare to split. Served with a side of grilled baguette, the flavorful beef was finished with capers, mustard seed and an egg. It was so tasty, we cleaned the plate. For entrées, I decided on the recommended fried chicken. While not quite the same as Nashville’s signature hot chicken, 5th & Taylor’s take gives a subtle nod to its spicy counterpart. The tender fried chicken was coated in a chile-honey sauce and came with okra and pickled onion on the side. The portion was quite large, though I finished most of it with some help from my husband. He went in a lighter direction ordering the halibut. The fish was rich in flavor and sat atop a fresh salad of succotash with smoked corn. It was a great start to our Nashville visit.

5th & Taylor’s décor is industrial chic, with brick walls, exposed beams and sleek, black furnishings. It feels as though it should be located in a more bustling area. We both commented that we wish we had a similar spot in our neighborhood at home. Despite its location outside the hustle and bustle of downtown, a visit to 5th & Taylor is a must.
