Reviews / Entertainment

The wine of Spain is revered around the world as one of the highest quality thanks to the country’s Mediterranean climate, ample sun and cool sea breezes. One small wine region in Catalonia called Alella is just a short bus/car ride from the region’s capital city of Barcelona and makes for an ideal daytrip from the city.

Approximately 1 mile from the sea’s edge, Alta Alella winery sits on top of a hill overlooking the sea and the valleys below. The 148-acre estate is run by a local family who acquired it 20 years ago. The estate produces organic wines and cavas (Catalonia’s sparkling wine) that can be tasted both in local restaurants and restaurants around the world.

Alta Alella winery hosts a plethora of events for visitors to the estate, including vineyard walks and tours led by guides who explain the cultivation and production of Alella wines.

The winery also hosts tastings of three or six wines, which include walks among the vineyards and visits to the underground wine cellars. Looking for a place to hold a special event? Alta Alella rents a private event space with valley and sea views where guests can host corporate events, seminars, exhibitions and wine pairing workshops.

As the closest winery to the city of Barcelona, Alta Alella winery is the region’s epicenter of enotourism.
