Reviews / Hotel

It’s hard to picture a more beguiling spot to while away a weekend than Comforts of Whidbey, a dual bed-and-breakfast/winery at the southern end of Whidbey Island in Washington State.

The charming winery building, atop which sits six guestrooms, is perched on a bluff at one end of the farm/vineyard, so it sports a lovely water view. The grounds also hold apple and nut trees, a friendly troupe of cows and several acres of grapevines.

In late summer/early fall, visitors can help pick the grapes or even watch the pressing process. Each guest also receives a complimentary wine tasting in the charming tasting room below the guestrooms and a cheese plate. In the morning, owner Rita Comfort cooks a spectacular breakfast, complete with several homemade items like quiche using eggs from the farm’s chickens, berry cobblers, smoothies and more.

The winery’s pours are excellent, too. The lineup includes several white wines from grapes grown on site, and a few red varieties made from grapes trucked over the mountains from Eastern Washington’s warmer climes.
