The boutique Hotel Gustave in Paris is immediately adorable. Upon finding yourself in a quintessentially Parisian neighborhood, you enter the small lobby, where you’re greeted at the equally small welcome desk. To the left is a stylish seating area, and further back is a bar.

Once the good-natured trainee (who giggled her way through broken English as she informed me of the amenities and location) checked me in, I took the elevator to the fourth floor. The elevator, like the lobby, was adorably miniature, but I didn’t feel like taking the spiral staircase up four flights.

With only a few rooms to a floor, the guestrooms are situated at somewhat odd angles from one another. I had a classic guestroom. Walking inside, the entrance made room for a stocked fridge, snack area and a floor-length mirror. Further on into the room was the queen bed (incredibly comfy after my connecting flight from Iceland to Paris). The eye-catcher in the guestroom, however, was absolutely the huge mural painted over the bed and onto the ceiling, depicting the Eiffel Tower. Across the room, a small seat by the window showed a stunning real-life view of the Parisian architecture and rooftops across the neighborhood. For the lack of space in the rest of the hotel, the bathroom was surprisingly spacious and the rain shower and good water pressure was much appreciated.

While the cute boutique style of the hotel makes it endearing, the one aspect that really makes it a gem is its location. With a five-minute walk, you can be at the Eiffel Tower, with a selection of guestrooms offering great views of the landmark. Likewise, the hotel is right near plenty of shopping and dining.

Though I only stayed one night before catching a train to Luxembourg City, I’d be happy to stay at the Hotel Gustave again, where the friendly staff, perfect location and cozy spaces make for a lovely introduction to the city.
