Madrid is home to thousands, maybe millions of comfortable beds in which to rest and relax after hours spent traversing the city. But if you’re just looking for a place to lay your head and aren’t as concerned with privacy or luxury amenities, then Open Hostel’s (https://www.openhostelmadrid.com/) two locations are adequate options.
Both located a stone’s throw from Gran Via, Open Hostel is not much beyond what a budget traveler would expect. The staff is friendly but won’t necessarily go out of the way to accommodate guests’ needs. A pay-per-meal breakfast offers cold cereals and a smattering of pastries. The automatic coffee machine that operates around the clock is the saving grace.
Each bunk bed is equipped with power outlets, a private reading light and a privacy curtain that doesn’t quite close completely. Lacking a personal storage shelf leaves these bed arrangements with much to be desired. The rooms are efficient but cramped, and each sleeper is assigned one storage locker just inside the door, which makes for awkward comings and goings while attempting to organize a suitcase or just glance at yourself in the one mirror.
The shared bathrooms are separated by gender and aren’t as sticky and dirty as one might expect when cohabitating with strangers. For budget travelers in Madrid, there are better choices for your euros.
