Review: The Clapton Hart, London

As London pubs go, The Clapton Hart offers the perfect combination of outstanding food and an extensive choice of drinks.

Add to that a friendly atmosphere that turns rather more raucous later on, and you’ve got the three essential ingredients for any good pub. The pub is found in Clapton, one of the city’s fast gentrifying northeastern neighborhoods, and the pub attracts a crowd of young professionals keen to enjoy their downtime.

To eat, walk through the large bar at the entrance and head into one of the back rooms, where everything feels more intimate amid the low lighting. The Sunday roast is especially good, with generous portions designed to help you nurse your Saturday night hangover.

Take the edge off with a bottle of red wine from the selection, with the Reserve St Marc a tasty choice. If wine isn’t your thing, tuck into one of the famous craft beers, such as the Volden Pale.

If you want to visit midweek, the menu has plenty to offer. From brown crab risotto to confit duck leg, there are dishes to suit every taste, and if you’re feeling indulgent the desserts also come highly recommended.

All in all, this historic, 18^th-century pub is a great example of British hospitality, with many customers coming in for food but staying for a drink or two on top.
