Reviews / Hotel

There’s not much to the town of Abisko, in Sweden’s far north, but the Abisko National Park that represents the main draw here is definitely worth trekking for. The park is home to wild reindeer and wild scenery, and it draws visitors for its hiking and camping opportunities in summer, and its Northern Lights viewing in spring.

If you’re headed to the area, you can’t do much better for accommodations than the STF Abisko Mountain Station Hotel. The hotel combines traditional hotel rooms and hostel bunks, both of which put you at the best launch point possible for exploring the national park and surrounding trail system.

In addition to the hostel bunk, the traditional hotel rooms include single and double options for around 300 people. The hotel can feel a little overrun at times with hikers and backpackers, but overall is a homey place to relax and unwind — especially if you’ve traveled a distance to get here.

The on-site restaurant is also worth mentioning. It serves excellent three-course dinners as well as a la carte dinners, plus an impressive spread at breakfast that is included with a hotel stay. All food possible is organic and much of it locally sourced, so you’ll get a taste of Sweden before you hit the trails.
