The Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program offers frequent travelers the opportunity to skip long security lines at airports and move through the entire process much faster than normal.

As long lines continue to plague the nation’s airports, PreCheck is becoming more popular. The process for enrolling is simple and streamlined, starting with a brief paper application and followed by a short in-person interview. The interview centers are typically conveniently placed and the staff has its process dialed in to maximize speed.

Your PreCheck status is good for five years. With it, you can move through a designated security line and keep your shoes and jacket on. You also do not have to remove liquids or laptops from their bags.

One downside is you will need to add your Known Traveler Number to every airline reservation you make, either at the time of purchase or as you check-in. The number is not added automatically, so you need to memorize it or keep it accessible. Otherwise, the lines are much shorter, and if you travel by air more than two or three times a year, you can cut a considerable amount of time from your day.
