I recently enjoyed brunch with friends at Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood. The 100-year-old whiskey distillery building was transformed into the Italian-influenced neighborhood spot it is today. The chic yet cozy dining room features wood accents, exposed brick walls and a functioning fireplace.
We arrived shortly ahead of our reservation and waited only a few minutes before being seated. Our table near the fireplace added to the cozy vibe of our dining experience. Shortly after being seated our waiter came by to take our drink order and offer menu suggestions. Besides the selection of brunch cocktails, the drink menu featured interesting beer and wine options. I opted for a bloody Mary. Some of the items from the dinner menu make an appearance on the brunch menu; however, I was more interested in a true brunch. The frittata and breakfast-style pizzas were tempting, but I kept looking at the donut sandwich. Our waiter smiled and nodded as I placed my donut sandwich order, so I took that as a good sign.
It took a little longer than I expected for our food to arrive, though I always appreciate knowing meals are prepared fresh and with care. The attentive wait staff kept our water glasses filled the entire meal service. My dish arrived first, so I nibbled on the tasty, crisp fried potatoes while my friends waited for their meals to arrive. The donut sandwich is decadent. Tender ham, fried egg and fontina cheese are sandwiched between a split, glazed donut. It’s a messy, but satisfying meal. I ate every last bite.
I thoroughly enjoyed my brunch at Wm. Mulherin’s Sons and look forward to visiting again for dinner.

United Continues Its Global Expansion
