AccuWeather released the results of a national survey of how winter weather conditions affect consumer behavior. The AccuWeather MinuteCast study polled 1,000 respondents across the United States about their winter travel habits.
Here are some findings from the survey:
- 87 percent of respondents give themselves an extra 30 minutes when heading out on the road during wintery conditions (Midwesterners gave themselves the most time)
- 58 percent would not brave the roads for holiday shopping if the forecast calls for at least four inches of snow
- 35 percent of Southerners would delay shopping if the forecast calls for one to three inches of snow
- 33 percent of respondents from the Northeast said it would take a more significant forecast — of seven to nine — to prevent them from driving
