The rich diversity of seasonal vegetables and vast livestock in Colombia led to Bogota being one of the best foodie destinations in South America. Tourists rave about the variety of available local and international cuisines, and we think these restaurants stand a little above the rest.
Matiz is not the cheapest restaurant in Bogota by any means, but it is one of the most delicious and fun. The chef offers three separate menus for diners so there’s no shortage of options available and, if you’re feeling adventurous, he’ll cook up a little something special for you on the spot. Be warned, though, he won’t tell you what he’s cooking until it’s on a plate in front of you.
Abasto is a regional restaurant with three local spots in Bogota that serve traditional Colombian dishes along with international fare. Not only do the owners insist on using local ingredients, but they have a small market in the Usaquen quarter where they sell the produce grown by the farmers who supply the restaurants’ ingredients.
El Bandido is more flair than flavor, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they short you when it comes to taste. The restaurant is known for its ability to book amazing jazz and cover bands throughout the week to put on a great show for guests. The attached bar, El Enano, also serves up some delicious craft cocktails.
With two distinct menus, one for vegetarians and the other for meat eaters, this restaurant caters to just about everyone. The rustic interior makes for a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere while the creative Colombian dishes are sure to leave you craving more. The chef enjoys using traditional ingredients but in ways you might not expect.
