Spring break is right around the corner and flights to Cancun are way out of your price range —maybe you’re saving up for something else or maybe you’re simply choosing to relax in the comforts of your own home. Just because you aren’t traveling to Mexico for a crazy, wild break doesn’t mean your break can’t feel like an escape. Whatever your reason to keep things local, these spring break staycation ideas will guarantee you enjoy downtime.
Turn Off Your Technology
Unwind, indulge and recharge. Spend time away from social media, games, online shopping or endless browsing and take a break from technology for the duration of your break. Sure you can keep your phone on to make plans with friends, but try to keep your technology use to a minimum — you’ll appreciate relaxing at home without responsibilities. You’ll also be less likely to experience FOMO if your friends are posting about the wild vacations.
Makeover Your Room
Pick yourself up a bouquet of flowers to brighten up your room. Bake extra treats to have on hand for those lazy, Netflix Friday nights. Upgrade your personal space and prepare it in a way to transform your experience from every day to vacay.
Create a Travel Playlist
Spice up your music choice with a new playlist. Make selections outside of your usual music and venture elsewhere. The new music will add to the energy of your room. Transform your kitchen apartment into a Parisian café or New Orleans with some jazz or brass music.
Make Each Meal a Treat
Treat yourself. Whether you order takeout or cook a meal yourself, make sure there’s something special to look forward to.
Catch Up on Your Rest, But Make a Schedule
While vacation is meant for full-on relaxation, don’t overdo it. Sure, turn off the 7:50 a.m. alarm, but make the most of your day when you’re up — you’ll be less likely to get bored if you don’t make plans or daily goals. Create a mini itinerary and try something new whether you take a painting class, indulge in a spa session, take a trip to a brewery or winery or attend a concert.
