Tips / Travel

Rather than spend money on plastic water bottles and contribute to landfill waste, check out the WELLY bottle, a BPA-free reusable water bottle that is earning a lot of support and is dedicated to giving back.

Designed with both sustainability and philanthropy in mind, the WELLY bottle uses renewable resources like harvested bamboo and coconut shell carbon to filter water as you drink.

Made entirely from coconut shells, the product’s highly absorbent filter removes chlorine, odor and other impurities that contaminate the naturally pure taste of clean water, according to WELLY. NSF International, which has worked with the World Health Organization on global water issues, independently certified WELLY with its stringent standards.

WELLY is as charitable as it is innovative, donating $1 toward sustainable clean water projects in developing countries for every bottle bought. The company also plans to donate a percentage of individual water filter sales as bottles become available for purchase.

Founder Ben Kander started WELLY after his mom Elly passed away from liver cancer three years ago. From this difficult experience, he saw firsthand the impact impurities and toxins have on a person’s body. This inspired him to create a product designed to help people purify their lives.

The name WELLY pays homage to the wells that symbolize humanity’s long relationship with water as well as honors and continues the legacy of his mom Elly.

WELLY recently launched a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, garnering the support of 1,135 backers who pledged more than $64,000 to help bring this project to life. Those interested in this thoughtfully designed product can pre-order online later this year.

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.
