Fifteen years ago, getting good Mexican food in central Europe, particularly in Vienna, was nearly impossible. Over the last decade a more diverse culinary scene has taken hold. There used to be one or two restaurants to choose from and now there are dozens. Some are more formal and others quick and on-the-go interpretations. Here are the top three Mexican restaurants in Vienna.
Taqueria Los Mexikas
For some good tacos, try this taqueria in the eighth district. Its menu is not extensive, in a good way, and they stick to the more traditional dishes like taco el pastor and tacos de costilla.
Dona Irma
Located in the third district, Dona Irma provides some good tacos and empanadas. The margarita is also pretty solid. They have some questionable items in the appetizer offerings, mainly variations on nachos, but if you stick to the main dishes, then you won’t be disappointed.
Max & Benito
This quick food joint is by no means a classic Mexican restaurant, but if you are in the mood for some solid Tex-Mex, this is the place. The burritos are great. Located in the first district in Wipplingerstrasse 23, this place has something for everyone. You can eat well for less than €10.
