Tips / Travel

Remembering to book dinner reservations two months before Valentine’s Day probably isn’t on the top of most people’s to do list. Next thing you know, it’s February 13 and you have no plans. If you’re the procrastinating type, or maybe someone who has a demanding boss that insists you get them the best table in town three hours from now, then have no fear. New apps are helping open doors at the busiest hot spots, even at the last minute, either by blocking off high-demand inventory at partner restaurants or by reselling reservations.

In San Francisco and Los Angeles, there’s Table8. They’ve partnered with top restaurants to offer tables at peak, sold-out times just days in advance. No waiting lists, no hassles, just guaranteed reservations in your name at the most sought-after restaurants in your city. For a reservation fee (shared with the restaurant’s partners), you get last-minute access to select reservations uniquely available to Table8 diners. Fees currently range from $1–30 per reservation and are based on the demand for tables at the requested time and date. Booking through Table8 is easy, just reserve the table you want through the website or mobile apps.

New York City has Killer Rezzy, Resy and I Know the Chef. TableSavvy has set up shop in Chicago, and all of them work approximately the same way, by charging you a fee for same-day seats.
