Tips / Travel

No matter how fun your vacation is or how jam-packed with activities you’ve made it, nothing beats going home to sleep in your own bed. Unfortunately, that’s the one thing you can’t do while on a trip. What you can do, though, is make your hotel room a little more homey so you don’t have to miss a wink of sleep to the tossing and turning travelers face when in a new environment. Here are a few ways to make your hotel room feel like home.

Take your own pillow and your favorite candle

It will be easier for you to get comfortable in bed and the familiar scent of the candle will remind you of home.

Keep up your routine

You’ll help your body adjust to a new environment, eating schedule and even a time-zone change by sticking as close as possible to your nightly routine. Whether that means drinking milk and reading right before bedtime or winding down with your favorite show, continuing your nightly rituals will help you relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Unpack

Living out of a suitcase is not something you would do at home and having to rummage through your luggage every time you need something is not convenient. Even if your stay is a short one, you’ll feel more at home with your things in their proper place.

Bring your nightstand items

Whatever you have on your nightstand at home, like photos, alarm clocks and reading lights, will make going to bed and waking up comforting.

Buy healthy snacks

Though some hotel rooms come equipped with kitchens, you presumably won’t be able to cook on your trip. That said, you should still lay off the processed food and eating out too often. Stocking your fridge with healthy treats like fruits and yogurt and buying granola bars will make your stomach feel better. Plus, having snacks at hand like you would at home is more advantageous.
