How To Pack A Suit

Unless you’re comfortable flying in a jacket and dress pants, you’ll need to learn how to fold them if you want to minimize wrinkles and creases. Here are some tips how to pack a suit and still look good overseas.

  • Start by turning the right sleeve inside out.
  • Take the left sleeve with your right arm and place it inside the right (inside out) sleeve, thereby folding the jacket vertically in half.
  • Line up the ends of the suit jacket and bring the sleeves over the jacket cloth.
  • Fold down from the top of the jacket until it packs down.

Pants are easy enough to fold; the problem is in avoiding creases. To prevent this, you’ll want to put some space between the layers, so wrap your pants around your folded suit jacket. You can also use any other articles of clothing you are packing. The added thickness will prevent a crease from forming underneath the weight.

Suit bags are another option, but they might count as a piece of luggage. You could ask the flight attendant to place it in the jacket pocket, but they might tell you to fold it in half and place it in the overhead compartment, which defeats the purpose of the bag.
