Planning a vacation is hard. There are so many things to consider when trying to put together a trip, but one of the biggest issues is money. Will you have enough? Have you planned for emergencies? Budgeting is essential when planning a vacation.
Make sure this is a vacation you truly want to go on. It’s much easier to save and budget money when the trip you’re going on is something you’ve dreamt of for a long time. Don’t commit to a vacation where you have to compromise on things you’ve been looking forward to. Consider the destination of the vacation. Some places in the world are more expensive than others and will require more spending money. For example, Oslo is one of the most expensive European cities, so a meal there might cost more than a meal in Paris or a comparable European city.
If you’re planning for a big trip, it might be helpful to set a certain amount of money aside each month in preparation for it. Buy a mason jar and fill it up with any extra change or cash you have and then add to the money you’ve set aside. Always plan for emergencies as well.
Download a budgeting app or, if the vacation includes friends, organize a group effort to budget money. It’s easier to save money if you’re being held accountable either by an app or by friends. Saving money can be difficult but easier to do when it’s in anticipation for a vacation.
