Natural Attractions in Nicaragua

Mother Nature truly blessed Nicaragua, and there are some amazing spots to visit all over the country. Here are some of the best natural attractions the Central American nation has to offer.

First up is Lake Nicaragua, a huge body of water that dominates the center of the country. It’s the only place in the world where sharks live in fresh water, plus it’s teeming with huge fish. There are also a number of bird sanctuaries around its shores, with regular tours for bird watchers.

Another area of note is Miraflor National Park, one of the finest areas of natural beauty in the country. It’s easy to spend a week here exploring and spotting wildlife.

It wouldn’t be right to write this guide without mentioning the volcanoes, a common sight in Nicaragua. If you visit Masaya, you’ll be able to see molten lava in the depths of the crater, while those who go to Apoyo will be able to enjoy watersports on the crater lake.

Over on the Pacific coast, surfing is the order of the day. There are great waves up and down the black-sand beaches, with Nicaragua attracting more and more surf fans each year.
