Tips / Other

Every traveler knows a trip is only as good as the photographs taken. From the airport to the hotel and everywhere in between, photos cement the memories of our experiences for years to come. But some places and objects are overlooked and not often captured by the camera lens for various reasons. The next time you travel, consider snapping these commonly neglected sights.

Windows and Doors

One of the most common actions travelers forget to do is to look up. Doorways, balconies and windows can feature stunning architecture, as city streets resemble more of an art gallery than an urban mecca.

Street Art

Speaking of exterior art galleries, viewing street art — anything from graffiti to murals — is a free way to get a feel for the vibe and opinions of the local denizens.

Sporting Events

This does not include matches in major stadiums or arenas as the subject can get lost among the crowds. Rather, scope out a local game of soccer or the national sport of the country you are visiting and capture native citizens in their element of action.

Markets

Color, texture and human interaction come to life in bustling street markets. Visit early in the morning to shoot close-ups of items for sale, or go later in the afternoon to snap real-time negotiations and vendors in action.

Moving Vehicles

Trying to snap transit in motion can be difficult, but set up in a busy thoroughfare and wait for the perfect moment to photograph a moving scooter, tuk-tuk or fancy European cab. If visiting a tropical area, park in the harbor for shots of longboats and other forms of water travel.
