Tips / Destination

The British capital may have a reputation as a buzzing metropolis, but it is home to a remarkable number of parks and gardens.

From huge royal parks, such as Hyde Park and Regents Park, to garden squares, like Russell Square and Soho Square, you’re never far from a green space. Even in the center of London, a short walk will take you to a park or garden where you can take the weight off your feet and forget about the hustle and bustle of the city.

Among the most famous green spaces are Kew Gardens, home to the world’s largest collection of plants, and Hampton Court Palace, constructed for Henry VIII. These magnificent spaces are a great day out in west London, and provide a window into the history of the city.

In the east, Victoria Park is a huge expanse of land that hosts concerts and festivals, while the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park covers the site of the 2012 Olympic Games. North Londoners swear by a visit to Highbury Fields or Clissold Park, while south Londoners won’t have a bad word said about Southwark Park, Burgess Park or Brockwell Park.

Whether you want to stroll around landscaped gardens, go for a jog or play sports like tennis and football, you are spoiled for choice with London’s parks.
