There is a great American road trip for every season. New England in September, the Southwest in December, California in March and the Pacific Northwest in June. The best spring destinations are a little more difficult to plan. Emerging from the winter holidays and, for some, cold weather slumber, April and May can present a mixed bag of options for any intrepid traveler. You may find yourself dealing with rain, allergies, a leftover winter storm and then more rain; 2018 has proven particularly hard to navigate on both coasts since spring reluctantly arrived in March.
The best spring road trips in the United States still remain in the southern states. If you are not allergy prone and can put up with a little rain, there is a beautiful landscape that awaits you in the Southeast without the threat of most serious weather. There are so many road trips to choose from in this area; in order to narrow the scope here are just a few suggestions: The Cherokee Foot Hills, in South Carolina; Maryland and Virginia for cherry blossoms; or the Texas Hill Country.
Hit the road in these beautiful locations while they are lush and green, but not too hot to enjoy. This time of year is a rare window for this combination. Of course, any region of the United States has a lot to offer in spring. You cannot go wrong with a classic American road trip.
