Got the first spin class nerves? Spin can be a great way to get into shape, especially if you need encouragement and motivation to keep moving. Don’t be intimidated your first time, spin is something you improve on as you go. Follow these quick tips before your first spin class to make the best out of your experience.
Ask For Help
Setting up your bike the first time is hard. Make sure you ask an instructor to help you so you put your seat at the right height and handle bars in the right position, otherwise nothing will feel right while you’re spinning and you could risk an injury. Most instructors will naturally know to help first-timers, and will walk you through the main positions of first, second and third, so you’re well prepared before you begin. Pro tip: Always arrive at least 15 minutes early to set up and get a good seat. Spin is popular for a reason and seats fill up fast.
Go At Your Own Pace
You might feel pressure to keep up with the spin pros surrounding you and to not throw off the flow and rhythm of the rest of the class, but don’t be afraid to go your own pace. Yes, you should push yourself hard and not take the easy way out, but don’t overexert yourself if you need to find your balance.
Find Your Rhythm
Spin is all about a sense of rhythm. Most spin classes blast music to keep you in sync with the beat and to inspire different paces. Try to follow the beat as best you can and find a rhythm with the instructor and the rest of the class.
