Tips / Travel

Musician or not, you should pack guitar strings when traveling. You could be the guitar string hero of the hostel, adored by all.

Guitar strings are cheap. They are small. They are light and they don’t take up much space at all. There really isn’t any downside to throwing a pack or two in your suitcase.

Music is the key to any get together. Quite often the music will be some guy or girl with a guitar, playing all the classics as well as songs from their home country.

There’s always a musician and a guitar in every hostel. It’s a fundamental principle of the nature of hostels. You don’t have to be that guy. There already is that guy. But you’re something else: You’re prepared. You’re the one that will pull out some strings when they inevitably break.

The tiny, lightweight guitar strings have no disadvantages to carrying them, and you might well profit. They’re difficult to find in many towns and countries, especially if the musician doesn’t speak the local language, so without doubt it’s a good idea to pack some.

‘Guitar string hero’ is one of the best nicknames you could get at a hostel, and one with numerous perks. Being recognized is nice, and will open up opportunities, as people are more likely to invite you for something. You’ll at the bare minimum have a musician as a new friend, and that’s a good friend to have.

Of course, your little bit of pre-planning kept the party going, kept the good vibes flowing. You’re as important as the musicians themselves, without needing any special talent.

Going the Distance: Which Airports Have the Longest Walks?
