There is a lot to see in Nicaragua and you could easily spend a month in the country. However, if you’ve only got two weeks, you will still be able to see and do plenty of things.
Start your trip in Managua and spend a day looking around the capital before heading off to the old colonial port of Granada on the shore of Lake Nicaragua. Marvel at the architecture and explore the markets before heading off to the volcanic island of Ometepe, where you can climb Concepcion for amazing views over the lake.
From here, head to the coast at San Juan del Sur for a few days surfing and partying with the backpacker crowd. Stretch your legs on a coastal hike to the lighthouse, and then take the bus up to Leon to visit the Museo de la Revolucion and go sandboarding down Cerro Negro.
Lastly, it’s time to head north to the Somoto Canyon, which you can explore on a canyoning tour, and then visit the Miraflor National Park. It’s packed full of natural wonders and makes for a great last stop on your trip before the journey to Managua for your flight home.
