Tips / Destination

The German capital has a great reputation as an affordable, fun destination. With a large population of creative young people, there are plenty of opportunities to party in the city. Bars, restaurants and cafes are dotted all over Berlin, including some must-see spots.

Take Madame Claude in Kreuzberg, where the furniture is stuck to the ceiling and a trendy crowd dances the night away. The area is known as a hot spot for hipsters, and is also home to Bar Marques. The subterranean bar is positioned like a 1920s jazz club, and serves an impressive array of cocktails.

If wine is more your thing, check out Die Weinerei in Mitte. It runs an unorthodox system in which every guest pays €2 to rent a glass, and then to drink as much wine as they like. On the way out, you leave what you think is an appropriate amount in the tip jar.

While Berlin might be best known for electronic music and trendy nightspots, the city has a longstanding connection with the punk scene. See some of the other side of the city at Syndikat in Neukolln, Clash in Kreuzberg and Schokoladen in Mitte.

Whether you are into swanky cocktail bars or down-at-heel punk venues, there’s a bar for you in Berlin. Of course, in the warm summer months, you can do as the locals do and hang out on the streets, outside corner stores known as spätis. Perfect if you are counting the pennies!

United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.

Going the Distance: Which Airports Have the Longest Walks?

You’re in between flights and ready to find a coffee and your next gate and settle in. But then you find the signs to your gate and look down the impossibly long corridor and wonder how you managed to have the gate at the opposite end of the airport.
