Since the first Time Out Market opened in Lisbon in 2014, the concept has been a hit and the success spurred new editions to open in cities around the world. In 2019, Time Out Markets opened in Miami, New York, Boston, Montreal and Chicago, and this year, Dubai will be the next city graced with a massive food market.
Dubai’s Time Out Market will be located in Souk Al Bahar, a popular downtown shopping complex that already sees heaps of visitors every day of the week. In the 30,000-square-foot space, the market will comprise 16 dining areas that feature Dubai’s top chefs and restaurateurs, as well as three lounges and spaces for other cultural experiences.
The original Time Out Market, located at Lisbon’s Mercado da Riberia, welcomed 3.9 million visitors in 2018 and has since become one of the most popular attractions in the city. Both visitors and locals go to the market to sample food from Portugal’s top chefs, some of whom have been awarded Michelin stars. The space also hosts events, such as cooking demonstrations, musical performances, a club called “Rive-Rouge” and a terrace and garden where visitors can dine al fresco.
Future market editions will open in London in 2021 and Prague in 2022.
