At first blush, the small town of Cordova, on Alaska’s south central coast, appears to not have much going for it other than scenery. And that scenery is pretty incredible: On a clear day, the backdrop is an impressive wall of mountains that plunge toward the sea
But the city known for its fishing industry would otherwise seem to have little draw for visitors. There isn’t a bustling tourist industry and no major cruise port, for example. But look beyond the surface and you’ll find plenty of interest here, including a handful of worthwhile museums, plus trails and scenic float plane rides that take you close to the massive glaciers nearby.
And surprisingly, Cordova has a vibrant restaurant selection.
The Reluctant Fisherman serves local seafood dishes with a view of the harbor
Baja Taco serves outstanding fish tacos served from a converted bus
Harborside Pizza offers comfort food picks like massive pizzas and chicken wings
Powder House offers local seafood along scenic Eyak Lake.
Killer Whale Café serves casual food and coffee.
