Think of a Mexican beach holiday and Cancun might spring to mind, but there are plenty of great beaches on the Pacific coast, too. Here are some of the top beach towns to visit.
Once an undiscovered surfing village, Sayulita has rapidly developed since a new road connected it to Puerto Vallarta in 1998. Come here for a relaxed boho vibe, good waves and great food.
Twinned with neighboring resort town Melaque, Barra de Navidad is authentic Mexico. Most visitors come from Guadalajara, and foreigners are few and far between. It’s south of Puerto Vallarta and easily accessible.
This charming series of beaches is home to nesting sites for endangered Olive Ridley turtles. Visit a nearby conservation project or wander down to the protected beaches, but be careful where you walk so as not to disturb the eggs. Drive south from Puerto Vallarta and you’ll soon find it.
This small town is found in Baja California state, with great beaches and activities on offer. Spot pelicans, dolphins and whales, or go snorkeling and sport fishing if you feel like being more active.
Situated in Sinaloa state, this town is known for its great nightlife. Ask the friendly locals how to get to the Zona Dorada and you’ll find bars and clubs that keep the party going until the wee hours.
