Lilongwe might never attain a reputation for being a foodie paradise, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some pretty wonderful places to eat. If you’re looking for delicious food and great atmosphere, check out these local joints.
Ama Khofi is the perfect spot for a midday burger or even just an early morning coffee. The tranquil setting amid a garden makes it a great place to relax and start your day, while the food here is top notch.
Malawi might be the only country in the world that can do Italian food better than actual Italians. With a menu featuring a wealth of antipasti, seafood and pizza you might feel like you’re on the wrong continent, but your mouth will love you for it.
The Kiboko Town Restaurant is attached to a hotel, but don’t let that turn you away. The generous portions, scrumptious coffee and large menu make it a great choice for lunch or breakfast. It doesn’t hurt that there’s a mini playground inside, either.
It’s not hard to find traditional Indian food in Lilongwe, but Blue Ginger probably does it best. The prices are a little exorbitant, but the vast array of flavors more than makes up for it. Get your hands on some mutton while you’re here.
Bombay Place is one of the most popular eateries in town and is usually packed full with locals and tourists. This Indian restaurant boasts a large menu and the best curry in town. It’ll cost you about $30 a plate, but it’s worth it.
