With the most number of diners per capita, New Jersey is considered to be the diner capital of the world. Here are five of our favorites.
This retro-style diner in East Windsor offers fresh bread baked on the premises, also supplying sister restaurants, Skylark Diner and Pines Manor. The menu features locally sourced produce and grass-fed beef.
Opened in 1929, Summit is one of the oldest diners in New Jersey. Only a few of the original 2,000 dining cars made by the Jerry O’Mahony Diner Company still stand today.
Owned by the same people who operate Americana, Skylark serves the same freshly baked bread everyone loves. It was even featured in an episode of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Joel Hodgson.
Mastori’s is an expansive diner experience, where you enter through a fully operational bakery and emerge into a huge diner with rows and rows of booths. Be sure to try the local favorite, cheese and cinnamon bread.
Tops in East Newark is a classic New Jersey favorite, popular with the young after-party crowd. Even for a diner, the menu is quite extensive, with a variety of pasta and seafood dishes, deserts and more than 30 kinds of burgers.
