Looking for a beautiful beach devoid of endless tourists? Get away from it all at some of these top spots.
Looking for a totally remote spot in the Caribbean? Good luck with your search … unless, of course, you’ve already found this amazing location. Salt Cay is known for its extensive salt production during the days of British colonialism, but is now relatively quiet. There are only a few hundred residents and wild donkeys outnumber cars. You’ll have to hop a small plane or boat to get here from the main airport and you won’t find any big resorts. In other words, you’ll be living like a local in no time.
Another destination with few amenities for your average tourist, this Costa Rican village is great if you’re looking to get off the grid. Relax and enjoy a slow pace of life in this sometimes-difficult-to-reach beach on the Pacific. Bring your walking shoes — transportation is limited — and enjoy endless days of waves, water and peace and quiet.
If your idea of a perfectly secluded beach includes fewer tropical palm trees, more wildlife and nippy springs, falls and winters, head a little further north to Georgia. Cumberland Island is pretty much undisturbed and, as such, is home to a variety of wildlife, from wild horses to deer. You’ll have to take a ferry to get there, but few do.
Bandon State Natural Area, Oregon
On the other side of the country, Oregon offers pristinely beautiful beaches you can enjoy all to yourself. Bandon State Natural Area is nice in it’s close enough to civilization to be convenient, but quiet enough to provide you with a little tranquility. From the sunsets to the sea stars, sea stacks to seals, there’s so much to look at and love at this West Coast beach.
Believe it or not, you can in fact enjoy some peace and seclusion in the Bahamas. The Out Islands are some of the more remote islands in the chain and each offers its own perks and personality. Whether you want a world-class resort on a pristine beach or a small shack on the ocean all to yourself, you can find it here.
