Top 5 / Europe

Thessaloniki has long been thought of as the culinary capital of Greece with vibrant restaurants full of delicious eats lining the streets all throughout the city. If you’re in town for quick trip, here are some local spots you need to try.

Negroponte

Deep in the heart of the Ladadika district is one of most tourists’ favorite eateries: Negroponte. The ingredients here are picked fresh daily by the owners and the menu changes just as often. There are a few staples, though, and the yogurt and zucchini cakes are a must for anyone needing a refreshing dessert.

Nea Diagonios

Meat and potato lovers will feel right at home at Nea Diagonios, home to some of the best gyros and soutzoukakia in all of Greece. The portions are large, and so are the prices, but it’s definitely worth it once you get a taste of the meats.

Rouga

While there’s nothing Rouga doesn’t do well, we’d be remiss if we didn’t suggest some of their mouth-watering moussaka. It’s kind of what the place is known for, but you can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu. It’s the perfect place for lunch or dinner for folks wanting an authentic, laid-back Mediterranean experience.

Diavasi

Thessalaoniki garnered quite the reputation for its variation on the classic gyro, with this area’s version made with pita. Diavasi is the place to go if you want to sample this local favorite. The salads here are creamy and the perfection companion during a quick stop for lunch.

Frutti di Mare

For a wonderful seafood selection and one of the best customer service experiences in Greece, check out Frutti di Mare. Their octopus is a prime choice while their orzo with truffle oil with make your mouth water.
