Gone are the days when travelers had to choose between wads of cash and travelers checks on holiday. These days there are plenty of options for travel money, so here are five of the best.
Revolut
This start-up offers a banking app, money transfers and ATM withdrawals thanks to its debit card. The number of free withdrawals is limited though. Transfer money easily between friends and keep your funds secure thanks to stringent security protocols.
Monzo
A similar start-up to Revolut, Monzo offers an app, a debit card and free ATM withdrawals. There are no fees whatsoever to use Monzo.
WeSwap
This card manages 18 currencies and is also managed using a smartphone app. There are no fees for the first year, but a 1 percent fee will be charged after that point.
FairFX
Another prepaid card is the FairFX, which comes in euro and dollar versions. You’ll get a bonus if you load more than £600.
Cash
Although it’s not wise to go away with bundles of cash, do remember to take some with you. In the developing world, you might not always have an internet connection when you need one, so keep some cash in local currency for emergencies.
