Vacations are meant to be relaxing, but it’s easy to ruin your sense of a break by constantly checking your phone, whether you’re tuning into the news or scoping out your work email.

Disrupting your recharge not only distracts from your vacation experience, but it also makes it tough to truly unwind.

Here are some ways to make sure you unplug – and stay unplugged.

Truly Get Off the Grid

Find a place that doesn’t have cell phone service or wireless internet readily available for your next vacation. Then, you won’t even be tempted to dial back into real life while you’re away.

Out of Office

Set your out of office message, and make sure it says you won’t have access to email or phone while you’re away.

No Notifications

Turn off your phone’s notifications, whether related to new email, social media or texts. Better yet, delete those apps from your phone — it’s easy enough to add them back when you’re ready to re-enter society.

Read

Buy some good books, so you can become engrossed in a story that doesn’t involve reading on your phone.

Leave Your Phone Behind

Leave your phone in the hotel room, or turn it on airplane mode if you still want to take it with you for photography purposes.

What to Do During a Trip to Morro Bay, California

No, it’s not Monterey Bay. We’re talking Morro Bay, California, located about a 2.5-hour drive to the south, about halfway between San Jose and Los Angeles. A quieter destination, Morro Bay offers plenty for the outdoor adventurer to enjoy.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.
