The Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art celebrated its 50th anniversary June 3, with the MCA ArtEdge: 50 party. Top-tier ticket holders enjoyed private dining, venue tours and an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated art exhibit “Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg,” which opened June 6.
The evening began with a cocktail reception in the newly redesigned two-story Kovler Atrium and Lefkofsky Lobby. Before dinner, attendees got a first look at the museum’s renovations and décor unveiling, as well as the Takashi Murakami exhibit.
World-class cuisine was served during the Murakami-inspired dinner, surrounded by the never-before-seen art exhibition boasting vibrant colors and canvases stretching 60 feet high. The multicourse dinner was accompanied by music curated by producer, performer and close collaborator of Takashi Murakami, Pharrell Williams.
Following dinner, actress and singer Janelle Monáe performed a live concert for guests before concluding the evening with dessert and dancing.
