Trends / History

The Battle of Gettysburg took place July 1–3, 1863. Since its founding in 1995, the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee sponsors a three-day reenactment event July 1–3 to commemorate the important battle. This year marks the 154th anniversary of the battle.

The event takes place in Gettysburg, Pa., at a reenactment site outside of the Gettysburg National Military Park. GAC hosts a variety of events including a reenactment of Pickett’s Charge, living history presentations, live mortar fire demonstrations, period music and encampment displays.

There are six reenactments over the course of the three days: The Ambush at Hunterstown, Perrin’s Attack – “The Capture of Seminary Ridge,” Farnsworth’s Fatal Charge, The Wheatfield – “A Bloody Harvest,” Clash at Fairfield and Cushing’s Battery – “A Valiant Stand.”

Gates open at 8:30 a.m., July 1. Activities take place throughout the day at the two activity tents and on the battle site. Check the event schedule for a detailed list of events.

Advanced adult general admission costs $29 for one day, $49 for two days and $69 for three days. For bleacher seats, advanced adult admission costs $39 for one day, $69 for two days and $99 for three days.
