Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

There are many ways to travel through Kyrgyzstan — horseback, yak and on foot being chief among them, but one of the most enjoyable is by camel. Now camel riding is not for the faint of heart, they’re ornery creatures and not exactly comfortable to sit on, but sometimes the best experiences come with a little risk.

A camel riding tour that takes you through some of the country’s most awe-inspiring scenery is the perfect opportunity to discover the country while also practicing your straddling skills. Book a camel ride from Bishkek city to get things started. Take some time here to visit the White House Victory Square and the eastern market before you leave.

Next, make your way on camelback to Kol-Tor Lake. It’s one of Kyrgyzstan’s “dead” lakes and located in the homonymous gorge. Lush spruce forests and plenty of wildlife surround it. The next day you can make your way over to Kochkor city where you can explore and give your camel a rest. Here’s you’ll find the Tower of Burana.

When you’re ready to head back out, find your camel and ride him to the Kilemche Valley. This picturesque mountain valley contains an eponymous river and an opportunity to hang out in a yurt camp.

Finally, make your way to Son-Kol Lake, an alpine lake that sits 3,016 meters above sea level, the second-largest in Kyrgyzstan. The area attracts numerous wildlife, including herds of sheep, goats, yaks and horses. It’s truly a beautiful sight.

When you’ve had enough, it’s time to make your way back to Bishkek. Feel free to book a better ride home.
