If sailing is your thing, the Catamarans Cup is a great event in the Greek islands. There are competitive events throughout the week involving sailors from more than 18 different countries, and participants range from seasoned experts to novices. Those who sign up charter and sail race catamarans throughout the Greek islands for a week, stopping off for parties and prize events.
The 2017 edition will be the eighth Catamarans Cup in history, and there are three routes available to competitors. All three start in Athens, but they take in different islands in the Saronic and the Argolic gulfs.
It’s a mixture between a sailing holiday and a race, so you can take it as seriously as you like. Even if you aren’t bothered about winning, you still get to explore the Greek islands by catamaran.
The event takes place from Oct. 21–28. You can charter your own catamaran and crew it with your friends, charter a crewed catamaran or sign up as a crewmember on an open crew. No experience is required, so it’s a great way for novices to get some sailing under their belt while enjoying the Greek islands.
