Sleep is an important part of ensuring travelers hit the ground running when they arrive in a new destination — whether for business or pleasure, there’s things to see, people to meet and other demands. In response, hotels are personalizing a traveler’s sleep experience and working harder than ever to meet guest needs when it comes to rest and relaxation.

Two hotel brands upping the ante when it comes to sleep programming initiatives are AKA and Library Hotel Collection. At AKA, luxury-service residences catering to travelers staying a week or longer, AKA Sleep School, a collaboration with the New York University School of Medicine Sleep Disorders Center and the Sleep Medicine Associates of New York City, helps guests achieve REM with customized accommodations, evening seminars and one-on-one consultations with certified sleep specialists. Guests can choose to customize their spaces with light boxes, black-out drapes, light-sensitive alarm clocks and more, and they can benefit from in-room screenings with board-certified sleep specialists.

The Library Hotel Collection offers in-room humidifiers and soup to guests feeling under the weather. Other items available by request include eye masks, special pillows and foam or featherbed mattress toppers. The Sleep Phones System was developed by doctors to lull users into a natural, restorative sleep, and is available on loan from the front desk.

Even hotels located near noisy airports are taking extra steps to facilitate sleep. Hilton Chicago O’Hare offers rooms with black-out curtains, comfortable beds, sound-proof windows and a calm no-fly zone location.
