Milan is home to high-end restaurants, premier shopping and some of the most well known fashion labels and designers in the world. While a trip to Milan has much to offer, it won’t be complete without a daytrip to the far more understated yet nonetheless enchanting villages of Lake Como.
Situated only one hour from Milan, Lake Como is one of the largest bodies of water in Italy. It offers timeless beauty, surrounded by the towering snow-capped mountains of the Rhaetian Alps, luxury villas and charming villages. Enjoy a lake cruise to admire the Neoclassical villas and churches that line the lake shores, or take a gondola ride up to the village of Brunate, a serene spot in the hills above the town of Como. For a true taste of authentic Italian cuisine stop in the village of Bellagio, and admire the architectural gem that is the Basilica of Sant’Abbondio, a Romanesque-style church from the 5th century. For superb views of the expansive lake, take a walk up to Allesandro Volta tower.
A daytrip to Como is easy and affordable with local trains running from Milan to Como Nord, a round-trip bus that runs to Bellagio and several ferries. Escape the bustle of Milan, and enjoy a peaceful day in the Italian countryside, soaking in the sun, sights and culture of Italy’s beautiful Lombardy region.
