It all started with Adam Rotman and his good friend Tom, who set out on a backpacking journey across Central and South America. While millions travel the world, Rotman approached his journey differently. He wore a GoPro on his head throughout every second of the trip, showing the micro-interactions and sights that aren’t touristy or necessarily used for the most sought-after photos.
After his initial trip five years ago, Rotman hoped to develop his idea into an authentic travel reality show, or docu-reality series. This wasn’t going to be a typical Discovery Channel show with pristine views and luxurious hotels, but rather a behind-the-scenes travel experience. He wanted to capture real stories of real people in the real world, which led him to develop Through My Eyes.
Through My Eyes is exceptionally real. Viewers feel like they’re with the participant in the exact moment as they experience the intimacy and authenticity in the stories. There’s no film crew but the camera is in their eyes, allowing travelers to tell the story at the most personal level possible. You watch the story unfold from their point of view.
Rotman has since sent more than 20 travelers to embark on an odyssey that takes them far beyond their comfort zones across the world to document their own travels in their own ways. This no-filter storytelling docu-reality is a look into the world to inform and remind viewers of the main reason for travel. Those heading out on adventures capture their journeys to create a revolutionary series, experienced entirely from the point –of-view angle.
