A visit to New York’s Finger Lakes wine region is the perfect getaway for any wine enthusiast. With dozens of wineries located within a close distance, there is something for every palette.
Beyond wine, Americana Vineyard sells fudge and other locally made food. Stop by on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon and dance to music provided by local bands. Thirsty Owl Wine Company features a gift shop, tasting room and bistro. If you’re taking your boat, you can park at their dock, call the winery and they will give you a ride to the tasting room. Knapp Winery sells a variety of cordials, in addition to their selection of wine. Each month the winery hosts a wine dinner with a reception and five-course dinner. Check the schedule on their website.
Dr. Franks is one of the more popular and well-know wineries in the Keuka region. Tastings are free and the staff is knowledgeable. Heron Hill’s tasting room offers easy access to the bottles for sale. On Wednesdays, visit the farmers market on the grounds from 4–7 p.m. The winery also has tasting rooms in Canandaigua and Seneca Lakes. Not far from Dr. Franks and Heron Hill is Bully Hill Vineyards. In the tasting room you can either purchase a tasting flight from a selection of wines, or pay as you go and choose from all of the wines. Bully Hill’s restaurant is a short walk from the tasting room and overlooks Keuka Lake — perfect on a beautiful day.
Glenora Wine Cellars hosts special events year round, including lobster bakes, live music and a holiday festival. With a restaurant and inn located on site, you don’t need to leave the premises for a true Finger Lakes experience. Fulkerson Winery offers winemaking classes every Saturday during the fall. Just interested in a tasting? Visit the on-site tasting room or check their schedule for tastings at local festivals and wine stores. Three Brother’s Winery is actually three unique wineries located on one estate. For those wanting a break from wine, Three Brother’s also brews beer. Sample one of the many varieties of War Horse Brewing Company, including a Riesling beer.
If you aren’t close enough to walk to a winery, book a designated driver through one of several services, including Finger Lakes Winery Tours, S&S Limousines or Quality Wine Tours.
