Nelson Mandela would have turned 100 this year. To celebrate, Goway now offers a new South Africa itinerary, starting in Johannesburg and continuing through Durban and Cape Town. The Walking in his Footsteps — Mandela’s Centenary experience provides a historic take on this breathtaking destination.
“Nelson Mandela was a world icon, not just a hero to South Africans,” said Moira Smith, general manager, Goway Africa. “Although this specific tour includes many touch-points to celebrate his life, we can tailor-make any of our current product offerings to suit our customer’s interests or budget.”
Starting in Johannesburg, guests stay at 54 on Bath, a luxury property in the northern suburbs, with on-site dining, a rooftop pool and a great location. While there, guests visit the Apartheid Museum and take a bicycle tour of Soweto. Other spots to visit in the city are the Mandela House and Soccer City.
Once in Durban, where guests stay at the Oyster Box Hotel & Spa, the itinerary includes the Nelson Mandela Monument, Tsonga Shoes and Bags, Swissland Cheese and Blueberry Hill, for a taste of local handicrafts and cuisine.
The last leg of the journey concludes in Cape Town. Guests enjoy accommodations at the Taj Cape Town Hotel, with stops at the District Six Museum, the Langa Township and Robben Island. The experience concludes with an evening at the theater for a showing of Kaapse Stories from the Mother City.
The 10-day itinerary also includes airport transfers, accommodations, breakfast, two dinners, all day tours and itinerary activities. Guests may add on wine tastings, spa treatments and other extra amenities.
